Few Good Men!!!

18 Nov

In a world where relationships to an extent are superficial and emotions are shallow, some of these fictional characters help us restore our faith and trust in Love and Commitment.

“Once in awhile, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives us a fairy tale.” ~ Unknown
When we think of ‘A Knight in Shining Armour,’ the one name that stands out distinctly in our minds is none other than Maan Singh Khurana of Geet Hui Sabse Parayi. The perfect Debonair with a heart of gold. “Tum Maan ki baahon mein ho Geet. Hawa ko bhi tum tak pahoochne ke liye meri ijazat leni hogi. Tum ghabrao mat.” For a woman these are just not mere words, but means of assurance that to someone she is the World. A woman can forgo every trauma in life if she can have a Man like Maan as her Mahi…her ‘Anchor.’ As much as we love Geet, we envy her for being blessed with a husband like Maan because being a Man’s wife is ordinary but being Maan’s Life is extra-ordinary.
“It is the heart that makes a man rich. He is rich according to what he is and not according to what he has.” ~ Henry Ward Beecher
Mujhe apne biwi par pura bharosa hai…these golden words saved Priya from getting humiliated in public because of Ashwin. Ram of Bade Acchey Lagte Hai may not be the man Priya had desired for, but today she must be proud to have him in her life. Ram might not be head over heals for Priya, but he definitely respects and trusts her. He has also stood up for her family as and when required. They may not be living like husband and wife but there is an unspoken bond, which binds them together. If there is trust and respect, love cannot be far away. Its not going to be long before Priya realizes that the voice she had once heard in the hotel rest room, sharing the void of his life and with whom she felt a connect instantly was none other than Ram.
“Life is a journey and love is what makes that journey worth while” ~ Unknown
Every girl has her own share of apprehensions when getting into an arrange marriage but Jeevika in Ek Hazaron Mein Meri Behna Hai has been extremely fortunate to find a man like Viren. A lawyer by profession, Viren is not only practical and grounded but is sincere too. He is neither cynical nor oblivious to his surroundings and the people who matter to him. He values the emotions and sentiments of his loved ones and plays the balancing act effortlessly. Every girl desires that her man would understand her and her family without having to say much and Viren does that beautifully. He not only loves and trusts Jivika, but also honours her family. Marriage is not a destination, but the beginning of a new journey and with a companion like Viren one can surely hope that Jivika will always be able to overcome every obstacle in life.

“The supreme happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved – loved for ourselves, or rather loved inspite of ourselves.” ~ Victor Hugo
Raghuvendra Pratap Rathore of Uttran is a smart, intelligent, wealthy, and practical man who comes with an attitude that suggests, “don’t dare to mess with me.” However, it’s amazing how he falls in love with a woman like Tapasya and eventually wins her over. Tapasya who was rejected by her loved ones for all the wrong doings found acceptance in this complete stranger. It’s unbelievable to see Tapasya have a husband like Rathod who loves her with all he has even after knowing that she is responsible for losing their only child. A character like Rathore instills the faith that there are probably men out there who will love and accept you for who you are or inspite of who you are.
“We come to love not by finding the perfect person, but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly.” ~ Sam Keen
Jab hum pati patni hai toh hamari pareekshaye alag kaise ho sakti hai. Suraj of Diya aur Baati Hum does not belong to the above league of men, but still he is no less desirable. A man lacking in proper education and ambition is not what Sandhya dreamt of but destiny has bonded her with Suraj. Ever since their marriage, Suraj for no fault of his has time and again faced the wrath of Sandhya and each time made futile efforts to get to the truth. Even though Sandhya has not been able to accept this mismatch, Suraj on every occasion has extended his support towards her. He may not be highly qualified but he displays values and morals, which are difficult to find among the qualified class of men. It takes a lot of courage and patience to keep aside one’s Ego and tolerate the kind of denial and rejection that Sandhya put forth on their night of consummation. Suraj is a very simple hearted man whose happiness lies in the well-being of his family. By nature he is polite and a man of few words, yet he manages to read the pain behind Sandhya’s silence and makes repeated efforts to understand and comfort her. We hope that Sandhya soon understands and values the worthiness of this man who inspite of being her husband, never crossed the line of honour.
God may not shower us with what we WANT, but he always blesses us with what we NEED. Not all the men we discussed on Rangmunch today may be perfect or desired by their companion, yet when we look deep into their relationship, we soon realize they are the “made for each other couple.”

Wonderful article Swati. Loved it. In a bid to search for perfection in our partners, we forget that the little imperfections are the ones that make life interesting. Moreover, I think we are ingrained with a certain set of perceived perfections to look out for in a partner. But what is perfection? It is important that we realize it is different for each. There is no standard code for it.

Once again, love the way you have compiled each man/relationship from different shows to show us what perfection is really about.

Excellent article Swati Rangmunch the way you have described MAAN its is what we all feel from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you for this article.
The other husbands covered also are good. Such husbands though difficult to find are ideals in this world of human beings where woman are subjected to mental, emotional and physical torture all through their lives.

Swat, hats off to you again. I told you following your dream creates the magic of word that shows on these articles day after day. Excellento babes.

Sometimes I ask these young girls what really are you looking in men? lot of time the answer is “I want a perfect man, a perfect house with white picketed fence, a beautiful baby with a pet dog.

Perfect and Dreamy Men like Maan or Ram only exist in fictional characters that we all become crazy about. In reality do they really exist? FEW GOOD MEN indeed but if you see these fictional characters in all these shows, one thing is so common that none of the partners are changing each other. They have accepted each other the way they are.

I remember a year back, one of the couple at our church were celebrating 75 years of marriage anniversary. It was a Grand celebration. We asked them few questions about the successful marriage. Couple gave us few pointers but there were 2 things that stayed with me. 1) Accept each other the way you are. Do not change or push each other to change. 2) Visit Church or whoever you believe in together every week or at least once a month.

    Great Article. Muah Swat

Great Article. Your analysis of Suraj of Diya Aur Baati Hum is perfect .

We as viewers too hope Sandhya realizes soon.

SWATI…Awesome..Heart touching article with great quotations! They reminded me of the good old days when everything was Magical..and everyday in EE/PI we all used to wait for these golden quotes of yours.
Loved…loved..loved the first segment for obvious reasons.
Maan as a Man is Majestic…Maan as a lover is Mesmerizing..and…Maan as a Husband is Matchless…
Maaneet as a couple is Magical!
I could not quite relate to the other couples, as I am a one MAAN-Woman and do not watch these
other serials. But your superb writeup made me curious to know them.

This post of yours made me remember these golden words which to me perfectly encapsulate the institution of 'Marriage'….

“What greater thing is there for two human souls than to feel that they are joined together to strengthen each other in all labor, to minister to each other in all sorrow, to share with each other in all gladness, to be one with each other in the silent unspoken memories?”
    – George Eliot
