News Bar: The Week Back and Forth…!

Rangmunch.TV is back with an entire week’s round up on your favourite shows.

Sasural Genda Phool (Star Plus): Eshwar’s entry to the Kashyap household brings in huge tornado. Tension mounts by the day, which results in clash and outbursts from Bauji to his not so wanted son Eshwar. No matter how genuine Eshwar’s efforts are in wanting to get back, one must pay penance for ones mistakes and misgivings. Eshwar therefore has a long, painful road ahead. In the city of Mumbai, Suhana is trying her best to be the ideal homemaker but poor thing can’t just get it right. She is adorable as a messy and goofy Suhana and for that we completely love her. She is trying her best to make things work (thumbs up for that). Suhana for all you know might be that one person to bring back the sunshine and remove the dark clouds from the Kashyap family. Will things get resolved with the Kashyap ‘s or will it take turn for the worse? Will Suhana be that ray of hope to get things right? Do not miss the Monday episode to know more.

Dharampatni (Imagine TV): While Kastur is trying to fit into the Gala parivaar and keep everyone happy, she also ends up taking the blame for things that is not her fault at all. This does not go unnoticed by Mohan who is slowly warming up to her presence in his life. Mohan and Kastur spend some lighter moments getting to know each other making those scenes the highlights of the week. On a serious note, all through the week, we saw Kastur’s mother in law, Saroj, continue to be hell bent on misunderstanding Kastur’s good intentions. Despite Mohan’s attempt at explaining Kastur’s innocence to his mother, Saroj fails to see Kastur as anything but a conniving, unworthy wife for her son. How soon will Kastur’s selfless, thoughtful nature win over the mother-son duo is something we will have to wait and watch. Will at least one of them open their hearts to her this coming week? Let us hope so.
Bade Acche Lagte Hai (Sony): Priya unknowingly falls prey to Siddharth’s plan and convinces Ram to allow her to conduct the communication skills training for his employees. While Ashwin thinks that Priya is all ready to rekindle the old flames, least does he know that he is digging his own grave by trying to get close to Priya. The compatibility quiz that Priya plays with Ram was the cutest moment. “Aloo Paratha” is Ram’s computer password, does that surprise anyone??
Hawan (Colors): Keerat is not only upto his tricks to create disturbance and misunderstandings between Atharva and Aastha but very tactfully uses Baapji too. During the mehendi ceremony Keerat tries his malicious ways to be one up with Aastha but fails miserably. This not only riles him up but also gets him more determined than ever to ruin all the marriage rituals. On the other hand Samar Singh is adamant to stop the construction of the hospital and this time gets the village people and plays a very smart hand in name of religion. This definitely brings the much-awaited twist in the story. Baapji’s decision does not falter and he goes on to tell everyone that all will go according to the prescribed plan. The coming week will show major conflicting emotions as Atharva and Baapji will face obstacles in the name of Keerat and Samar Singh.

Saath Nibhana Saathiya (Star Plus): “Jhoot bole kauwa kaate kale kauwe se dario, tu maike chali jayegi tu dekhti rahiyo.” It was indeed a very happy moment for all the viewers to see Rashi finally get exposed before the entire Modi family. While Kokila was always suspicious about Raashi’s intentions and kept a strict eye on her, it came as a major shock to Jigar’s mother who could not believe that Raashi had been lying to them from day one. As the verdict is given to Raashi to leave the house, it would now be interesting to see how Raashi’s mother deals with this situation and turns things in favour of her daughter.
With this Rangmunch.TV wish you all a very Happy Weekend !!!

Aghaaz….A New Beginning!!

In yesterday’s episode, the last scene of Kuch Toh Log Kahenge not only surprised me as a viewer, but also gave way to a new beginning both in the life of Dr. Ashutosh and Dr. Nidhi.

Dr. Ashutosh was aware of the fact that Nidhi was not keen on being a Doctor, even though he believed that she had the potential to be one. However, yesterday when she finally put forth her decision, one could see Dr. Ashutosh’s disappointment. Even though he probably had anticipated this moment, but deep down his heart he wanted Dr. Mallika’s words to come true. He wanted Dr. Nidhi to be a “Survivor” and was hoping against the hope. Even before Dr. Nidhi gave away her decision, one could notice the angst on his face. Even though his expressions were very subtle, they still managed to convey the multitude of emotions that dwelt in his sub-conscious. On the other hand, Dr. Nidhi tried to look confident and happy with her decision but with a heavy heart.

Sometimes from nowhere a stranger walks into our lives and even before we realize, he or she becomes an integral part of our being. This so-called stranger not only gives our lives a new meaning but also becomes very close to our heart.

While Dr. Mallika and Anji both notices the subtle changes in Dr. Ashutosh and Nidhi’s behavior, will they both realise how much they have started to affect each other unknowingly? Will Dr. Nidhi’s step to quit, invoke those emotions in the stonehearted Dr. Ashutosh, who has shut himself off from experiencing them? Will this decision prove to be the turning point in Dr. Nidhi’s life?

In order to find answers to all the above questions, tune in to catch this unconventional love story of Dr. Ashutosh and Dr. Nidhi, every Monday to Friday at 8pm only on Sony Entertainment Television.

Must Watch: Prayashchit: Gunaho Ke Zakhm!!

The upcoming episode of “Prayashchit, Gunahon Ke Zakhm” has Shivaji Salunkhe.

A simple small-town man Shivaji Salunkhe from Dhule, Maharashtra, burnt and killed his wife out of suspicion and in a moment of rage.

In the darkest hour in jail, Shivaji reached a point where he was consumed by suicidal thoughts. He picked up a pen to vent his angst and pain, and poetry was born. His guilt and repentance made him a poet. He started exchanging soulful letters of hope and beauty with his daughter who was growing in an orphanage. His poetry reached other tormented souls, inspired them and gave some peace to Shivaji. His daughter grew into a beautiful person and a capable lawyer. Shivaji got released in 2010.

Today he conducts a 14 minute anger management workshop with an idea that if one can control ones anger for those 14 minutes, one can avoid a life imprisonment of 14 years of shame and guilt.

So catch Prayashchit: Gunaho ke Zakhm on Friday at 9:00pm only on Sony Entertainment Television.

Kuch Toh Log Kahenge: First Day, First Feel!

Nostalgia. Emotions. Loads of them. That was the very first thing I felt as I watched Kuch Toh Log Kahenge  as it finally aired after a series of promos that depicted the love story of a slightly Dr. Ashutosh and young bubbly Dr. Nidhi Verma.

Ashutosh is standing outside a Bunglow, reminiscing his childhood and the days spent there. While you know he is holding back alot of emotions, the later part of the episode smoothly shifts to the Verma household where Nidhi, a young medical student all of us can relate to is shown praying to Hanuman ji. Nothing out of the box so far, yet a connect is established. You know their pasts perhaps are inter-locked and you know this will surely have a bearing on their future as well. As Nidhi, hopes she would not pass, as she is unsure of what future holds for her, you relate to her nervousness as well as the dilemma of taking up something that has lesser responsibility. It is a good mix of emotions. You see a strong contrast of what she wants to do and what she ends up doing. You also understand, she is trying to rebel, but eventually gives in. Her rapport with her family and friend who wants to be a designer, makes her more lovable and desirable as the episode progresses.

In strong contrast there is melancholy when ever Ashutosh appears on screen for whatever little time you get to see him. He has been deprived of a house he has grown up in, and he is driven to possess and own it, since he feels it rightfully belongs to him. He is a doctor by profession and a well established one at that. As his kaka, who has been with him through his ups and downs pleads him to sleep as its way past bed time, Ashutosh responds cynically “Raat Sabke muqaddar main hota hai …. neend sabke muqaddar main nahi ..!!” …. you get a peek into the restless soul inside him that has deprived him of his peace of mind and his nights sleep right then.

You also learn how Nidhi is living her mother’s dream and she would always abide by her. She is a pampered child but she doesn’t get to throw tantrums beyond a point. As she gets into the car, to take up her job as an intern, she reflects over what fate has in store for her. She is not just Nidhi an ordinary girl anymore, she is now Dr.Nidhi Verma, and she knows it is a huge responsiblity. Is she prepared to take it? Will she succeed? Slow self-esteem resides in all of us, but the reflection of the same makes the emotion relate able. Thats is what you feel when you watch Nidhi. You want to hug her and tell her, it will be fine, you can see it in her eyes! You know she will make it.

Once she has given into destiny, the mighty power that drives the universe begins to play its game right away. Their very first confrontation happens, in true TV soap style where their cars almost dash against one another. What was interesting to note was that the cars dont bang into one another but they stop just in time. They don’t touch. While Nidhi is the spit fire, Ashutosh chooses to resolve it calmly and is apologetic.

The episode ends on a note that, tomorrow would be the day Nidhi discovers she has taken pungas with her boss! Their story has already begun without either of them realizing it.

The first episode had such a good feel, that time just flew while it was aired. The characters on the show seem to be well defined and distinct whether it is the father, the kaka or even the cook at home, who you know wants to do much more than what he is already doing. Some scenes shake you from within like the moment where Nidhi agrees to be a doctor when her father reminds her how it was her mother’s dream.

For a first episode, there was alot that happened and the Story writer Kamlesh Pandey has made sure he has done justice to all the characters in terms of what they have to portray later in the story. When you watch the show, you get a feeling that you know all the characters already, but you still want to sit and watch it since the smooth execution is visually appealing as well as captivating. Kudos to Director Mandhar Devsthali for making an impact. Though the story carries the pressure and the expectations of a hit show, it still looks promising.

After having made a good start, we only hope the show continues to keep up its tempo in the coming episodes. Needless to say Kritika Kamra sans the nose ring and Monish Behl who has already played a doctor in Sanjeevani and Dill Mill Gaaye fit into their new roles with great ease! We warmly welcome yet another love story into the world of TV and wish them all the very best during its run!

‘Kuch Toh Log Kahenge’ – A Blast from the Past!

Pyaase hai naina…tarse saari raina
jinme tu..hai rehta
haal kyun tu jaane na
Saiyyan pehchane na
haal unka kyun tu jaane na…

Saiyyan nainon ki bhasha samjhe na…

Nainon ki bhasha samjhe na….samjhe na…

We will give you few minutes to listen to this song, if you haven’t heard it yet, because this song sets the tone for the upcoming show ‘Kuch toh log kahenge’ that is set to premier this Monday, 3rd October at 8 pm on Sony TV. Its lyrics, the yearning in the voice of the singer, the song itself is reason enough to want to watch it.

Kuch toh log kahenge promises to revisit the much-loved yesteryear Pakistani show Dhoop Kinaray, which is still fondly etched in the hearts of each and everyone who has been fortunate enough to watch it.

For those wondering about Dhoop Kinaray, we bring to you a glimpse into the show that had effortlessly warmed its way into millions of souls, through the words and heart of our very own Fida Khurana –

It was Dhoop Kinaray that taught me the truth about love: that you didn’t have to be young and handsome to fall in love; that sometimes princes are much older than their princesses, and that sometimes finding true love meant that you have to conquer your inner demons, not just outside forces. It also made me realize that love doesn’t depend on good looks or compatibility; sometimes love just is.”

Memories of Dhoop Kinaray by Fida khurana

Dhoop Kinaray is the story of Dr Ahmer Ansari (Rahat Kazmi) and Dr Zoya Ali Khan (Marina Khan), directed by Saira Kazmi.  First shown in eighties Pakistan, it became a super-hit across the subcontinent and the Diaspora, and still has a special place in the heart of all those women who grew up sighing over each interaction between the protagonists.

To give a summary seems unfair, for to encapsulate the story in a few brief lines is to diminish its emotional complexity and minimize the importance of the wonderful dialogues, which turned an everyday story into a seminal television show; still, let me try.

Ahmer is the adopted son of Zoya’s maternal grandfather, Baba (though this fact is known to neither of them).  When Ahmer’s Baba dies, he leaves his house to Zoya, leaving Ahmer feeling bitter and unloved, changing him from a happy loving man into a bitter, closed off recluse.  Zoya on the other hand is a happy-go-lucky young girl, who cares nothing for her inheritance; she has been raised by her indulgent Baba after her mother died, and thinks nothing about her mother’s family.

The two meet five years later, when Zoya (now a doctor) goes to work for Dr Ahmer in the Paediatric Ward; he initially thinks her nothing more than a careless and useless child who must always be corrected, whilst she considers him a terrifying dictator.  They eventually find their way towards each other, but then, at the moment when their relationship seems set to flourish, the past returns to haunt them as Ahmer realises that he has given his heart to the girl who destroyed his faith in love.

Watching these two characters find their way into each other’s heart is still a wonderful experience; Rahat Kazmi (Ahmer) and Marina Khan (Zoya) are totally convincing as two people who apparently have nothing in common, but who fall in love almost without realising.  The attraction and affection between them is utterly believable, despite the fact that they never even speak of love.

No show can depend on its main protagonists alone; Dhoop Kinarey is enriched by a wonderful cast of supporting characters.  Most important in the supporting cast are Fasi (Azra Sherwani), who is Zoya’s aaya/housekeeper, Zoya’s Baba (Qazi Wajid) and Dr Sheena Karamat Ali (Badar Khalil).

Zoya’s relationship with her Baba is a beauty to behold; every interaction is a pleasure to watch and the actors are utterly believable.  Azra Sherwani and Qazi Wajid are a joy to watch as the bickering almost-siblings (Fasi may be a servant, but at no time is she ever shown as less than a member of the family).

Dr Sheena is the other-woman, the competitor for Ahmer’s heart; she once provoked nothing but hatred in me, but with time, the depth of her pain has become clearer.  Her experiences are heart-breaking and I can’t help but wish that there had been some way for her to have a little happiness.  Badar Khalil shows what a wonderful actress she is; pathos and pain permeate her performance as the older woman who has to face up to the ravages of time.

Zoya’s best friend Anji  (Kehkashan Awan) is supportive and beautiful; she finds love with Dr Ahmer’s right-hand man Dr Irfan (Sajid Hassan) who is blessed with some of the best lines of dialogue in the show. Anji’s parents (Hameed Wayne and Ishrat Hashmi) provide some elegant comic relief, and even the minor characters all manage to develop individual personalities despite minimal screen time.

Dhoop Kinaray is a show in which relationships develop realistically; there is no sudden fall into love, no outside forces keeping the lovers apart, no evil villain from whom Ahmer has to save Zoya.  There are no grand declarations, no moments of physical intimacy, no explosive denouement.  And yet it is a show which epitomizes good story-telling, a show which treats its viewers like adults and shows us how love develops rather than spelling it out for us in words of one syllable.

Dhoop Kinaray is a masterclass in writing, acting and directing.  It is a perfect storm, each component coming together to work in perfect harmony.  There are no weak links, no exceptions.  One hardly notices the flaws, if any; the writing is so crisp as to hold your attention and concentration throughout.

Despite my wish to keep Dhoop Kinarey hidden in my heart, safe from those who might find it wanting, it would be wrong to keep such a gem hidden; if you are lucky, it will touch something inside you the way it has inside a generation of women, reminding you that love can flourish anywhere, even between two people separated by age, temperament and betrayal.  I can only hope that Kuch to Log Kahenge stays true to the spirit of Dhoop Kinarey, and wish it every success.

Kuch Toh Log Kahenge has Mohnish Bahl essaying the role of Dr Ahmer Ansari as Dr Ashutosh, and Kritika Kamra playing the bubbly and effervescent Zoya as Nidhi. It is a heart-warming tale of love between two different individuals, both in temperament and age, bound by a past hidden to both that will someday threaten to rip apart their bond forever. Will KTLH stay true to the original and succeed to capture a million hearts is anybody’s guess.

For now, the show is the most talked about in the television industry and among the fans. We at Rangmunch.TV wish it a success beyond comparison and sincerely hope that we get to not only relive the golden memories but also create new ones with Sony’s Kuch toh log kahenge.

Our heartfelt thanks to Fida Khurana, author of the Fan Fiction ‘His Wife, Mrs. Khurana’ based on Star One show ‘Geet Hui Sabse Parayi’ on Rangmunch.TV, for sharing her memories of Dhoop Kinaray with us.
